Kidney Stones

xKWxdZ Uwd gw ewak pItw

Signs and Symptoms

1. Sharp pain - usually on one side of the body that starts in the back below the ribs and move toward the groin.

2. Frequent urge to urinate but inability to pass more than small amounts of urine at a time.

3. Interruption of the stream during urination.

4. In men, pain in testicles and penis.

5. Bloody or dark urine.

6. Nausea and vomiting.

You may also have a kidney infection if you have:

1. Fever.

2. Painful urination.

3. Cloudy urine.

What to do now

1. If youre having a kidney stone attack drink lots of water-at least eight to ten glasses a day. This will help flush the stone out of your system and will discourage new ones from forming.

2. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever or a pain reliever prescribed by your doctor.

When to call a doctor

1. If you have waves of sharp pain in your side, back, or abdomen.

2. If urination is difficult or painful.

3. If you have blood in your urine.

4. If you develop fever with your symptoms.

How to prevent it

Recurrences are common, so take the following steps to try to prevent them:

1. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day-more in hot weather.

2. Ask your doctor about prescribing drugs or changes in your diet.
